The Palmetto Plant Eaters Club is free, open to the public, and meets monthly to teach and support whole-food, plant-based vegan eating. The Club will host Donna Watkins of Freshwater Farms, GA as its guest speaker on Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:30pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Lowcountry building at 110 Malphrus Road in Bluffton, SC. Donna will bring microgreen grow kits for sale at $25 each.
The one hour Palmetto Plant Eaters Club meeting will consist of introductions, announcements, upcoming calendar events, and the guest presentation. Afterward a Q&A session will take place for the speaker and to address any general plant-based lifestyle topics. Our meetings are for the curious, newbies, and longtime plant-based vegan practitioners alike. A drawing will be held and one vegan prize will be given away to one meeting attendee. Co-founder of Freshwater Farms, GA, (FWFGA) Donna Watkins has spent the past 6 years building its aquaponics greenhouse, participating in research and development of its operation systems, determining which cultivars grow best in the aquaponics environment in the Georgia climate, and is the greenhouse manager for FWFGA. After hurricane Matthew destroyed a large portion of the greenhouse and caused a major loss of fish which are required to operate the system, FWFGA turned to growing microgreens and now follows a system of growing which allows the delivery of live microgreens which are the freshest available in the area. Donna has spent her entire lifetime growing food with her grandfather and father and continues the tradition with her family. It is her passion to be able to grow and provide high quality produce at an affordable price for all to enjoy a healthy diet. FWFGA has been her retirement project, having retired from a Real Estate Appraisal company in New Jersey for 20 years.
